Description :

While it's also used in pharmaceutical and food-grade products, industrial-grade zinc oxide is specifically manufactured to meet the needs of large-scale manufacturing processes, often with less emphasis on the purity required for human consumption.


Uses:

 1. Rubber Vulcanization: It's a critical activator in the vulcanization process of natural and synthetic rubber, which cross-links the polymer chains and gives rubber its elasticity, strength, and durability.

 2. Ceramic Glazes: It's used in ceramics as a flux, which lowers the melting point of the glaze mixture. It also helps control the surface finish, from glossy to matte, and improves the glaze's resistance to crazing.

 3. Paints and Coatings: As a white pigment ("zinc white"), it provides excellent opacity and brightness. It also acts as an anti-corrosive agent and mildew-resistant additive in paints, particularly for protecting metal surfaces.

 4. Plastics: It's added to plastics to provide heat stability and UV protection, preventing degradation and discoloration when exposed to sunlight.

 5. Chemical Synthesis: It's used as a catalyst in various chemical reactions, most notably in the production of methanol and as an agent for removing sulfur compounds from natural gas.

 6. Electronics: It serves as a semiconductor in the manufacturing of varistors, which protect electrical circuits from voltage spikes, and is also used in the production of LEDs and solar cells.
