Description :

It is designed to mitigate the intense heat and friction generated when a cutting tool interacts with a workpiece. This heat can cause the tool to wear out quickly and deform the workpiece, leading to inaccuracies. Cutting oils are typically petroleum-based, but can also be made from plant oils, animal fats, or synthetic materials. They are available in various forms, including neat (pure) oils, which are not mixed with water, and water-soluble oils, which form an emulsion when diluted.


Uses : 

1. Lubrication: It reduces friction between the cutting tool and the workpiece, minimizing tool wear, improving the surface finish, and extending tool life. 

 2.Cooling: It dissipates the heat generated during the cutting process, preventing the tool and workpiece from overheating and suffering thermal damage. 

3. Chip Flushing: The flow of the oil helps to flush away metal chips and debris from the cutting zone, which prevents them from interfering with the cutting action and damaging the tool or workpiece. 

4. Corrosion Protection: Many cutting oils contain additives that provide a protective layer on the metal surfaces, preventing rust and corrosion on both the machine and the finished product. 

5. Machinability: By reducing friction and heat, cutting oil allows for faster cutting speeds and feeds, which increases overall machining efficiency and productivity.
