Hydrofluoric Acid – হাইড্রোফ্লোরিক এসিড

Hydrofluoric acid is a colorless, highly corrosive, and toxic solution of hydrogen fluoride (HF) in water. It has a pungent, irritating odor and is known for its ability to dissolve glass and many metals, making it both industrially valuable and hazardous. Unlike other acids, HF can penetrate human tissue, causing severe burns and systemic toxicity.

Uses of Hydrofluoric Acid:

1. Glass Etching and Frosting:

2. Metal Processing:

Essential in pickling stainless steel and other metals to remove oxides and prepare surfaces for further treatment.

3. Petroleum Industry:

Acts as a catalyst in alkylation processes to produce high-octane gasoline.

4. Chemical Manufacturing:

Used in the production of fluorine-containing compounds, including refrigerants (like HFCs), Teflon (PTFE), and pharmaceuticals.

5. Cleaning Applications:

In diluted forms, used to clean and polish metals, ceramics, and even certain plastics.

6. Electronics Industry:

Employed in the production of semiconductors and for cleaning silicon wafers.
