Description :

Aluminum sulfate, lab grade (500gm), appears as a white crystalline solid or powder. It's an inorganic salt with the chemical formula , where x represents the number of water molecules of hydration, which can vary. This specific lab grade indicates a high level of purity suitable for laboratory experiments and analyses. It's soluble in water, forming acidic solutions. The compound is non-combustible but can act as an irritant to skin, eyes, and the respiratory system upon contact. When heated strongly, it may decompose to release sulfur oxides. This 500gm packaging size is convenient for typical laboratory use.   

Uses of Aluminum Sulfate (Lab Grade):

     1. Water Purification: It acts as a coagulant, causing small suspended particles to clump together, making them easier to filter out of drinking water and wastewater.  

     2. Mordant in Dyeing: It helps textile dyes bind to fabric fibers, improving color fastness. 

     3. Paper Manufacturing: Used in sizing paper to make it less absorbent. 

     4. Laboratory Reagent: Employed in various chemical analyses and experiments.

     5. Soil Amendment: In agriculture, it can lower the pH of alkaline soils.  

     6. Manufacturing of Other Aluminum Compounds: Used as a starting material for synthesizing other aluminum salts.

     7. Fire Retardant: Can be a component in some fireproofing materials.   

     8. Leather Tanning: Used in the tanning process of leather.
