 This process prevents the iron from reacting with other substances in the environment. This chelation is important because free iron ions can readily form insoluble compounds, especially in alkaline conditions, making them unavailable for biological processes.  EDTA iron is available in various forms, including powders and liquids.  Commonly found as EDTA iron sodium (NaFeEDTA).
